Most of us have been taught to believe that comfort foods are terrible and should be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this holds true. Other times, comfort foods can be very healthy and good for us to consume. There are some foods that, when you consume them, could better your mood. When you feel a little down and are in need of an emotional pick-me-up, try some of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are terrific for helping you battle depression. You need to make sure, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–run better. Try to eat an egg and feel happier!
Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is possible as these foods have a bunch of magnesium which increases your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel all the time. The higher your levels of serotonin, the happier you are going to feel. Not only that, nuts, particularly, are a fantastic source of protein.
Cold water fish are great for eating if you want to combat depression. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all loaded with omega-3 and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you overcome depression.
Some grains are truly wonderful for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are fantastic at helping you feel better. These grains fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods as well. It’s not difficult to feel depressed when you feel famished! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not difficult to digest. You digest these foods more quickly than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.
Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were just waiting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is packed full of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid basically stimulates brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while also loosening up the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you feel so much healthier. Now you are well aware that it helps you to raise your moods as well!
Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try some of these tips instead.
